Rental Housing Issues: 

• Whom do I call if my apartment has roaches or rats?
  The Housing Inspection section of Building Services may be contacted to report problems with rats and roaches at (605) 367-8670.
• Will you tell the landlord I complained?
  Your name will not be given out except if there is a need to have you testify as a witness, which is very rare.
• I’m the landlord and property owner, can I do building, electrical, plumbing and mechanical work in my rental units?
  No, City Ordinance states that all work must be done by a licensed contractor.
• When a Notice & Order is done, can the tenant have a copy?
  No, however a copy of the notice and order is posted on the property. The Housing Inspection will deal only with the owner of the property. However, records may be subpoenaed.
