    On November 1, 2011, the City of Sioux Falls announced the awarding of the development proposal submitted by CR Lloyd Associates for redevelopment of City-owned property on the east bank of downtown Sioux Falls, unofficially known as the “River Ramp redevelopment site.” The development team, consisting of Paul Hegg from Hegg Companies, Craig Lloyd from Lloyd Companies, and Al Schoeneman, proposes to construct a 100-plus-room Hilton Garden Inn at the site. The hotel will include conference space, a restaurant, possibly retail, and incorporate unique downtown features. This project serves as a catalyst for removal of the 50-year-old River Ramp. Not only will removal of the ramp provide an opportunity for this development to proceed, it will also give the City an opportunity to move forward with its own commitment to improving the downtown river greenway. Phase II of the greenway project begins in 2012 with removal of the ramp. The greenway project will be constructed simultaneously with the hotel development.
