On Thursday, September 10, 2009, the Minnehaha County Historical Society dedicated a marker at Yankton Trail Park in honor of former City Finance Officer Manfred Szameit.

Szameit, nicknamed "Mr. Soccer" is widely credited for bringing the sport of soccer to Sioux Falls.
