Sherman Park is one of the oldest parks in Sioux Falls. It's named after the man who donated the original fifty-two acres, E. A. Sherman. Mr. Sherman was an early advocate for parks in a growing Sioux Falls community, and he helped to promote a park system as a member of the City Council and the South Dakota State Legislature.
The land Sherman donated is unique. It consists of a high bluff with several ancient Indian burial mounds. Below the bluff there is more land, and the Big Sioux River. Today it is host to many unique amenities, including the Great Plains Zoo, the U.S.S. South Dakota Battleship Memorial, baseball and softball fields, and picnic and playground structures.
