The City of Sioux Falls and ethanol producer POET signed a 10-year contract for City to build an 11-mile pipeline from the Sioux Falls Regional Landfill to POET's Chancellor plant.

Under the agreement, the city will then pipe methane gas from the landfill to the ethanol plant. This will help reduce the amount of natural gas POET has to use at it's ethanol plant.

The landfill could begin delivering methane to POET sometime in 2009.
