The Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) program is a federal program that provides annual grants on a formula basis to entitlement communities, such as Sioux Falls. The grant is to be used to develop viable urban communities by providing decent housing and a suitable living environment, and by expanding economic opportunities, principally for low- and moderate-income persons.
CDBG funds may be used for activities that include, but are no limited to:
Rehabilitation of residential structures.
Construction or rehabilitation of public facilities and improvements.
Public service activities.
Acquisition of real property.
Community Development will receive $843,047 of CDBG funds from the federal government in 2007. Program income receipts in 2007 are anticipated to be approximately $300,000. In addition, $306,897.10 of 2006 carryover funds will be utilized in 2007.
