The mission of Community Development is to improve the community by providing decent and affordable housing as well as expanding economic opportunities for persons of low- and moderate-income. This mission is accomplished through programs and activities that address the locally defined needs identified in the Consolidated Plan and listed below:
- Neighborhood revitalization.
- Home ownership assistance for low-income households.
- Housing rehabilitation assistance for low-income, owner-occupied households
- Permanent housing for special needs clientele, including:
- Chronically homeless.
- Mentally ill.
- Programs to increase self-sufficiency of low-income people
- Case management for low-income persons, including:
- Homeless and homeless prevention services.
- Services for victims and perpetrators of domestic violence and abuse.
- Substance abuse services.
- Services for the mentally ill.
- Affordable housing for households at or below 50 percent of the median family income, including:
- Rental assistance.
- Subsidized units.
- Security deposits.
- Transitional housing for:
- Families.
- Singles.
- Public services for at-risk youth, abused and neglected children, children from low-income households, and public facilities to expand those services.
- Public facilities and improvements that expand the capacity of services provided to:
- Physically or developmentally disabled.
- Victims of domestic abuse.
- Accessibility improvements.
- Expanded transportation opportunities for low-income persons.
- Emergency shelters for the homeless.
