Vernon Brown - At-Large Council Member
Click for Introduction Video | Vernon Brown was elected to an at-large seat on the City Council in 2004. He chairs the Public Services Committee and is a member of the Fiscal Committee. He works full time at SDN Communications, a broadband service provider for businesses, as the marketing and member relations manager. Previous to that, he worked as a reporter for 12 years at KELO-LAND TV. Vernon learned city government from the ground up as a reporter assigned to that beat. He also routinely reported from the South Dakota Legislature, and covered South Dakota's Congressional delegation in Washington, D.C.
Vernon serves on numerous boards, including the South Dakota Municipal League, Homeless Advisory Board, Southeastern Council of Governments, and Dakota Business Finance. Vernon grew up on a farm near Arlington, SD. He has a journalism degree from South Dakota State University. His wife, Tami, teaches at Washington High School, and they have one daughter. |
