The Administration Division ensures that our firefighters have quality equipment and facilities that are well maintained to fulfill our mission. This is accomplished through budget administration and oversight of the purchasing process. Funding to accomplish this is provided through the operating budget, the Capital Improvement Plan (CIP), and the Other Capital Expenditure Plan (OCEP). Through these, the following accomplishments occurred in 2006:
- Fire Station 10 opened August 4, 2006. This facility is an 8,000 square foot fire station that includes three apparatus bays. The station is located at 320 South Whitewood Circle and will primarily serve western Sioux Falls and Wayne Township.
- The Fire Maintenance Shop provided preventative maintenance and repairs to keep three engines, four rescue engines, four trucks, two command vehicles, two reserve engines, two training engines, approximately fifteen staff vehicles, and other major equipment in-service. Each fire apparatus is scheduled into the shop for preventative maintenance every sixteen weeks and support vehicles, trailers, compressors, and generators every twenty-six weeks.
- Sioux Falls Fire Rescue remains an accredited agency through The Center for Public Safety Excellence. Accreditation is a program that strives for continuous quality improvement and the enhancement of service delivery to the community. Our accreditation underwent a thorough review during the year to include an updated strategic plan, standards of response coverage plan, and accreditation manual.
