Benefit Summary – Shift Firefighter

Starting pay in 2008 for Firefighter is $1,440.55/biweekly.

Full-time employees are eligible for the following benefits on the 31st day of employment unless otherwise noted:

Health Insurance: The City offers the Patient Choice Plan with two options to choose from. 2008 employee premiums deducted from 26 pay periods are:

Dental Insurance: The plan is self-funded through Delta Dental. 2005 employee premiums deducted from 26 pay periods are:

Life Insurance: The City provides life insurance coverage at one times annual salary. Optional Supplemental Life Insurance is available for the employee, spouse, and children.

Pension/Retirement: The City has a defined benefit pension system in which employees are required to contribute 8 percent of salary into the Firefighters’ Pension System. This contribution starts immediately upon hire.

457 Deferred Compensation: Participation is voluntary and employees choose among 30 funds. Employees may participate immediately upon hire.

Vacation: Vacation accrual of 10 hours per month. Accrual level increases at four-year intervals, up to a maximum of 22 hours per month at 16 years or more of service. Vacation leave accrues from first day of employment, but may not be used until six months of continuous employment has been completed.

Holidays: The City recognizes 10 official holidays per calendar year.

Personal Leave: Employees are granted 12 hours of personal leave per calendar year. There is no carryover of personal leave from year to year. Personal leave shall be taken in segments of not less than 4 hours each.

Sick Leave: Sick leave accrual of 5.54 hours biweekly with no maximum cap.

Health and Dependent Reimbursement Accounts: Pretax spending accounts may be set up to pay for eligible out-of-pocket medical and dependent care expenses.

Wellness Benefits: Mammograms, pap/pelvic exams, PSA’s, flu shots, and healthy lifestyle screenings are provided annually as recommended by the American Medical Association.
