Request for Art Placement on City Park Property

Adopted by Parks & Recreation Board on December 15, 2009

  • Requests for placement of artwork on city park property need to be submitted by completing a “Public Art Donation Form” available at the Sioux Falls Parks and Recreation Administrative Office or the City of Sioux Falls webpage. 
  • All information requested on the Public Art Donation Form needs to be completed and returned to the Parks and Recreation Administrative Office. 
  • The request will be routed to the following city departments and other appropriate boards/commissions for their review and comments – Planning, Public Works (Engineering), Risk Management, and Human Resources/ADA. 
  • If a public meeting to consider placement of a particular piece of artwork is deemed to be necessary by the Director of Parks and Recreation or designee, the applicant will be notified of the appropriate procedures to conduct such a meeting. 
  • The Park System Planning and Development Committee will review the request based on comments from Park Staff and other city departments and forward comments to the Visual Arts Commission. 
  • The Visual Arts Commission may establish a Jury Panel to review and submit a recommendation back to the Visual Arts Commission for their review and recommendation to be forwarded onto the Parks and Recreation Board. 
  • The Parks and Recreation Board will make a recommendation for approval or denial of the request. 
  • The Director of Parks and Recreation will submit the recommendation to the Planning MOU for presentation to the Mayor and City Council for their consideration. 
  • Notification of the final action taken by the City Council will be issued to the VAC, Parks and Recreation MOU, and applicant in writing by Planning MOU staff.
