Title: Chief Rick Larsen Retirement

Sioux Falls Fire Rescue announces that Chief Rick Larsen will retire Friday, November 30, 2007, after more than 32 years of dedicated service. Chief Larsen will be recognized Friday at a retirement coffee to be held at Fire Station No. 3, located at 2820 South Minnesota Avenue, from 2 to 4 p.m. The public and the media are invited to attend.

Chief Larsen started his career on November 18, 1975, at Central Fire Station. During his career, he has served in all ranks. He was promoted to Chauffeur-Engineer on August 25, 1980, Lieutenant on January 14, 1985, Captain on September 4, 1989, Assistant Chief on December 30, 1996, Division Chief on July 13, 1998, and to Fire Chief on June 13, 2006.

Chief Larsen has made many contributions to the department, with none greater than his leadership in the effort to see Sioux Falls Fire Rescue gain national accreditation.

Chief Larsen received the “Executive Fire Officer” certification through the National Fire Academy and always strived to make a positive difference.

Rick has served the fire service in many capacities over the years, and he will be missed by all of us.
