Title: FEMA Flood Insurance Panel Maps Available

The new Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) Flood Insurance Rate Panel Maps are now available in Adobe Acrobat format on the City of Sioux Falls’ Website, www.siouxfalls.org.

ftp://gis.siouxfalls.org/outgoing/firm/firm_index.pdf

These FEMA Panel Maps are marked as preliminary and have been distributed to the City of Sioux Falls for comments. The process to complete this review with citizens will take place over the next 9 to 12 months. These maps are not effective at this time.

If a property owner believes their property is not located in the designated 100-year floodplain (also known as a 1-percent-annual-chance floodplain) as shown on the Flood Insurance Map, the property owner can request that FEMA make an official determination regarding the location of the property relative to the floodplain. Either a Letter of Map Amendment (LOMA) or a Letter of Map Revision Based on Fill (LOMR-F) is used.
