Mayor Dave Munson and Sioux Falls Fire Rescue Chief Rick Larsen will recognize Michael Townsend at 11:30 a.m. Monday, September 10, 2007, at Central Fire Station at Ninth Street and Minnesota Avenue for his quick thinking and decisive actions in saving the lives of a family whose home was on fire.

On September 2, Mr. Townsend was driving home when he noticed smoke and followed the smoke to see where it was coming from. He discovered a home on fire, with the occupants asleep. He alerted the sleeping family, and those actions were what likely saved the family.

The Mayor and Fire Chief will present Mr. Townsend with an Outstanding Citizen Award. Mr. Townsend will have his family with him for the award presentation.
