Construction will start soon on a new section of the Sioux Falls bike trail, Mayor Dave Munson announced today.

A groundbreaking will be held Monday, April 21, 2008, at 1p.m. on the west end of Dunham Park by the pedestrian bridge over Skunk Creek.

The new section of trail will add more than 6,600 feet (1.25 miles) of bike trail to the Sioux Falls system. The trail expansion will follow along the west side of Skunk Creek and includes four bridges, scenic river views, and expanded fishing opportunities.

“Our trail is extremely popular,” Munson said. “And this new addition will give us a wonderful upgrade.”

The project is made possible in part through federal funding.
