The Sioux Falls Area Drug Task Force, along with the U.S. Postal Inspection Service, the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office, ICE, and the South Dakota Highway Patrol, had been conducting a two-month long investigation of an illegal drug called “Khat” being delivered and distributed in the Sioux Falls area.
“Khat” contains an amphetamine-type stimulant and is a scheduled controlled substance in the United States. It is illegal to possess in the United States. This particular shipment came from the country of Kenya.
The investigation culminated with the execution of two search warrants. As a result of these warrants, 106 pounds of “Khat” were seized with an estimated street value of $34,000 to $40,000. Two people were also arrested and charged with possession of a controlled substance with the intent to distribute and possession of a controlled substance. They were identified as: Tola H. Hassan, 22 years old, from Richfield, Minnesota, and Mohamed S. Ibro, 25 years old, from Brooklyn Center, Minnesota. |
