On August 21, 2008, the Sioux Falls Police Department conducted a compliance check of 20 off-sale alcohol establishments within the Sioux Falls city limits with three of them making sales to persons under the age of 21. The clerks making the alcohol sale were issued a citation for furnishing alcohol to persons 18–20 years old (SDCL 35-9-1.1) with a mandatory court appearance required. Businesses making sales to underage persons may face fines, suspensions, or loss of their liquor or malt beverage licenses. The businesses making the sales were as follows:
- Freedom Value Center #9 at 1601 South Minnesota Avenue
- Sid’s Crown Liquor Store at 330 South First Avenue
- Café 334 at 334 South Phillips Avenue
In an effort to protect the young people of our community, the Sioux Falls Police Department will continue to do random alcohol compliance checks of all on-sale and off-sale alcohol establishments within the city limits.
