At approximately 7:30 p.m., on August 22, 2008, Sioux Falls Fire Rescue responded to a garage fire at 1008 East 3rd Street. This incident was originally reported as a car fire in a garage. First-arriving units reported that a detached garage was fully involved in fire. One civilian sustained burns and was transported to Sanford Hospital. Sioux Falls Fire crews protected the house next to the garage and then extinguished the garage fire. The fire was under control within 30 minutes. The house sustained minor damage and the garage was a total loss.

Sioux Falls Fire Rescue responded with 4 fire trucks, 2 support vehicles, and 19 firefighters. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
