The City of Sioux Falls, in conjunction with the Federal Emergency Management Administration (FEMA) and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, will be hosting four open houses during the new year to inform property owners about the preliminary Flood Insurance Rate Map.
Property owners can attend any one of the four open houses, but comments and information within each open house will be directed to specific geographic areas—east or west of Minnesota Avenue. Based upon the comments received to date, most property owners have similar issues within their neighborhoods (e.g., some are creek and levee related, while others are river related); therefore, time will be best served for the property owners to talk about their issues with similar people.
The open house format will be set up with stations to give people information on:
- A video with background information—also available at www.siouxfalls.org
- The location of the floodplain to their property
- Questions about floodplain insurance
- The Corps of Engineers and City of Sioux Falls levee system
- Evaluating flood risk
