Title: Sioux Falls Experiences Record Growth Year

The City of Sioux Falls has experienced its strongest year in building construction valuation ever, Mayor Dave Munson announced today.

Sioux Falls ended the year with $523 million in building construction valuation, exceeding the previous record of $463 million set in 2005.
“Once again we show that in spite of economic difficulties elsewhere in the country, Sioux Falls’ steady growth continues,” Munson said. “It’s important to note that this record year represents a range of quality projects in a variety of industries, showing our economy is not just strong, but diverse.”

The top ten building construction valuations for 2007 are:

  1. Sanford Children’s Hospital, 1600 West 22nd Street ($35 million)
  2. University Center, North Career Avenue ($16.8 million)
  3. Midland Life Insurance, 5400 South Solberg Avenue ($15 million)
  4. Sioux Falls Surgical, 910 East 20th Street ($11.55 million)
  5. Sanford Hospital remodel and addition, 1305 West 18th Street ($9.78 million)
  6. Foxmoor at Steeplechase, 5005 West Equestrian Place ($7.35 million)
  7. Journey Elementary School, 6801 South Grange Avenue ($7.24 million)
  8. Sanford Cancer Center addition, 1309 West 18th Street ($6.6 million)
  9. Courtyard by Marriott, 4300 West Empire Place ($6.4 million)
  10. Meta Payment Systems, 5501 Broadband Lane ($6.25 million)

Sioux Falls also experienced a strong year in housing, adding 1,747 new housing units. This total exceeded the city’s new housing numbers from the previous three years.

“This shows the housing slowdown nationwide is not having a major impact in Sioux Falls,” Munson said. “We have had a very successful 2007.”
