On July 1, 2008, Swift Construction, Inc. will begin construction on the new Drake Springs Family Aquatic Center in Nelson Park. Swift Construction was the successful bidder on the $4.7 million project. The current pool will remain in operation while the new facility is being constructed on the north and east  sides of Fairfax Avenue.

Construction will continue through the end of the year and is scheduled to be complete in May 2009. Notice: Motorists are urged to use caution in this area.
