Title: City of Sioux Falls Monthly Electronics Recycling Event

The City of Sioux Falls Recycling Program will continue to host its monthly Free Electronics Recycling Events on the second Saturday of the month for four hours from 8 a.m. to 12 noon. This month’s event will be held this Saturday, July 12. Events will continue to be held at the contractor’s facility, Millennium Recycling Inc., located at 305 East 50th Street North, Sioux Falls. Participants are encouraged to turn west onto 54th Street North, then south on Second Avenue into the event on 50th Street North.

This event is only for residential electronics from citizens located in the landfill’s service area which includes Lake, Lincoln, McCook, Minnehaha, and Turner Counties. Commercial, business, government, or institutional electronics will not be accepted. Microwaves are considered appliances and should not be brought to this event.

Since May 2004, the City banned a specific list of electronics from the landfill including computers and televisions. Many hazardous substances such as solvents, mercury, lead, chromium, and brominated flame retardants are contained in the banned items. To date, the City has collected over 1.7 million pounds of electronics at the drop-off events with more than 13,000 vehicles coming to the events.
