On July 11, around 7:30 p.m., a Sioux Falls Police Officer was driving a marked patrol vehicle on South Elmwood Avenue, south of 49th Street.
A single shot from an unknown weapon struck the passenger front window, went through the car, and exited the driver’s front window. Both windows were shattered. The officer received minor injuries from the glass shrapnel. A perimeter was set up by police and the Sioux Falls SWAT Team, K-9 Units, and the Minnehaha County SWAT Team responded to the scene. A search of the area was conducted but no one was located.
Other agencies assisting in this investigation were Minnehaha County Emergency Management, Sioux Falls Fire/Rescue, Rural/Metro Ambulance, and the Red Cross.
