At approximately 12:15 p.m., on July 28, 2008, Sioux Falls Fire Rescue responded to a structure fire at 519 West 11th Street. First-arriving units reported smoke coming from the east side of a one-story house. The fire was quickly located in the kitchen area. Sioux Falls Fire Rescue crews confined the fire to the kitchen area and extinguished it. There was fire damage in the kitchen area and smoke damage to the first floor of the house.
Six fire trucks with 19 firefighters responded to the fire. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
A smoke detector in the house alerted a next door neighbor who called 9-1-1. No one was home at the time of the fire. Two dogs were rescued from the structure. No firefighters or civilians were injured.
