The Human Relations Commission and staff welcome Valorie Ahrendt as the newest Commissioner to serve on the Human Relations Commission.

Mayor Dave Munson appointed Valorie at the March 10, 2008, City Council meeting.

Valorie is an Advocacy Services Representative with SD Advocacy Services in Sioux Falls. She graduated Magna Cum Laude with a B.S. in Paralegal Studies from National American University. In her capacity as advocate she researches state and federal laws/regulations, interviews clients, investigates claims of abuse, neglect and rights violations and represents individuals at meetings, mediations and hearings. Valorie serves as an advocate for children in need of special education services in the public schools, for the inmates in the state penitentiary, patients at Avera Behavioral Health Center, and individuals who are seeking or receiving services from SD Rehabilitation Services. She also makes presentations to the public on various disability related topics.
