On May 15, 2008, members of the Sioux Falls Area Drug Task Force and the South Dakota Highway Patrol attempted to take Samuel James Nelson, 26 years old, of Sioux Falls, into custody on felony drug charges.

Mr. Nelson fled southbound on Cliff Avenue in his 2002 Cadillac. The Highway Patrol pursued Mr. Nelson to the area of Northstar Lane where Mr. Nelson abandoned his vehicle and fled on foot. Officers captured Mr. Nelson in a nearby parking lot.

Mr. Nelson was charged with felony eluding police, possession of cocaine, distribution of cocaine, possession of marijuana with intent to distribute, and possession of marijuana. Mr. Nelson had over $6,400 in cash in his pockets, which was seized by drug agents. Agents also seized over a half-ounce of cocaine and over a half-ounce of high-grade marijuana.

Mr. Nelson was lodged in the Minnehaha County Jail. The investigation is still ongoing and more arrests are expected.
