On August 19, 2009, at 11 p.m., Sioux Falls Police responded to a call of a disorderly subject in the 2600 block of South Judy Avenue.

During the course of the investigation it was determined that multiple assaults, kidnapping, and robbery had been committed involving multiple victims (both adults and juveniles). A semiautomatic handgun and an AK-47 were used in these assaults.

The two suspects had distributed 15 lbs. of marijuana to an adult male for him to sell. This male was to have paid the suspects $18,000 once the marijuana had been sold. This marijuana changed hands multiple times in an attempt to utilize others to help sell the marijuana (both adults and juveniles). The original two suspects were never paid their $18,000.

The two suspects began tracking down each person involved in the sale of this marijuana. These victims had guns put to their heads and they threatened to kill them and their families if they did not receive their money. The two suspects threatened a 21-year-old male by putting a gun in his mouth, pistol whipping him, pouring gasoline on him and threatening to set him on fire. The suspects placed this male in the trunk of a car and drove him around to multiple ATM machines to get money to pay for the marijuana.
The suspects eventually released this victim in the area of Madison Street and Sycamore Avenue but kept his vehicle.

A few hours later the two suspects were located by law enforcement in the 1600 block of Rock Creek Drive and were arrested. The suspects are identified as:

1. Kidane, Aklilu Fessehage—resides in Seattle, Washington; 21 years old.
2. Atsemet, Amanuel Gebrengus—resides in Sioux Falls, 21 years old

Both suspects were charged with:

1. 2 counts of Aggravated Assault 
2. 1 count of Aggravated Kidnapping in the 2nd Degree 
3. 1 count of First Degree Robbery

Both suspects were arraigned in court on these charges on August 20, 2009. They are currently in the Minnehaha County Jail on a $500,000 cash only bond.
