At approximately 4:05 a.m. October 13, 2009 Sioux Falls Fire Rescue responded to a structure fire at 3600 East 6th Street. First arriving crews found smoke coming from the attic area of the building. Fire crews entered the building, evacuated residents, and attacked the fire. The fire was brought under control in approximately sixty minutes.
The fire was contained to the attic area, the outside of the southside of the building, and to a third floor apartment. The third floor and the attic sustained smoke damage. No civilians were injured. One firefighter was injured but was not transported to a hospital.
Six fire trucks, one command vehicle, four support vehicles, staffed by twenty nine firefighters responded to the fire. The Red Cross was on scene to assist residents and two city buses provided shelter for the residents. The building did not have a sprinkler system but did have a working alarm system. The cause of the fire is electrical.
