The City of Sioux Falls is still looking for volunteers for the Green-ival event this Saturday, September 19, 2009, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Falls Park.
This event will highlight a variety of City departments, local businesses, and nonprofits in our community that enhance environmental sustainability in some way. There will be over 50 booths, food, music, bike valet service, and gifts for the first 50 attendees who show up via trolley or bike that day.
This event has become much larger than anticipated for its first year. As a result, volunteerism needs have grown. The event is only four hours long and if you volunteer you will receive an organic cotton T-shirt and be entered into a drawing for one of several gift certificates to Sanaa’s Mediterranean restaurant.
Here are the volunteer jobs available:
- Bike Valet Attendant: 9:45 a.m. to 2 p.m.—Welcome guests arriving at the event and assist them in parking their bikes in our bike valet area. This is an area
that will be fenced off and volunteers will watch over the safety of the bikes and access the appropriate bike when biker wishes to leave. The attendant will not have to ride the bikes.
- Distributor of Goodies: 9:45 a.m. to 2 p.m.—Welcome guests arriving at the event and distribute goodie bags to the first 50 that arrive on public transportation or by bicycle.
Greeter/Parking Attendant: 9:45 a.m. to 2 p.m.—Welcome guests arriving at the event and direct them to the appropriate parking places. Maps and directions will be given to volunteers upon arrival.
- Kids’ Games: 9:45 a.m. to 2 p.m.—Assist kids in playing environmentally related games such as “toss the plastic bottle into the recycling container.” Game props and directions will be provided to you. Someone will be in place to lead volunteers through this process.
- Tie-Dye Attendant: 9:45 a.m. to 2 p.m.—Assist kids in tie-dying canvas bags to be used as colorful grocery totes in the future.
- Set-Up Assistant: 7:30 a.m. to 10 a.m.—Assist staff in readying the park for the day’s events. Hang signs, set up light tables, set up folding chairs, assist with setting up easy pop-up canopies.
Groups and individuals of all ages are welcome to volunteer.
