At 12:08 p.m. on Wednesday, September 16, 2009, members of Sioux Falls Police, Sioux Falls Fire Rescue, and Rural/Metro Ambulance were dispatched to a single motor vehicle crash on I-29, just south of the Madison Street on-ramp.
An initial investigation has shown that a 1998 Ford Windstar van was attempting to enter I-29 southbound traffic from the Madison Street on-ramp when the driver lost control. The van slid into the cable guardrail system and then struck an overhead signpost head-on.
The Ford Windstar had two occupants at the time of the collision. Both are adult males and residents of Sioux Falls. The driver received minor injuries and was transported to Sanford Hospital while the right front seat passenger was pronounced dead at the scene.
The crash is still under investigation; no names are being released at this time pending notification of next of kin. |
