The City of Sioux Falls is now accepting applications from single-family owner/occupants living within the city limits for the Furnace Replacement Program. This program may provide up to $3,000 to income-eligible homeowners (gross household income must be at or below 80 percent of the area’s median family income) for the replacement of older, inefficient heating systems (less than 80 percent AFUE) with a new 95 percent AFUE furnace. The properties must be single-family detached homes affixed to permanent foundations. Mobile homes, townhouses, condominiums, duplexes, and twin homes are not eligible for this program. The objective of the program is to foster energy independence.
This program is being made possible through funding from the Community Development Block Grant—Recovery (CDBG-R) Program as part of the Federal American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009. The assistance is in the form of a no-interest loan, one-third of which will be forgiven after one year and another one-third will be forgiven after two years. The remaining balance (one-third) remains as a no-interest deferred loan and is repaid by the homeowner when the home is sold or the owner no longer lives in the residence.
To find out more about the program or to get an application, contact Community Development at 367-8180 or visit the Community Development Office at 235 West Tenth Street, Sioux Falls, SD. Office hours are 8 a.m.–5 p.m., Monday–Friday. Details of the program are available on the City’s website under Community Development Department.
