The year-to-date building permit numbers have been compiled by the City of Sioux Falls and in three categories the numbers have increased significantly.

There have been 4,146 building permits issued through July 2010. This is an increase from 3,626 at the end of July 2009 and an increase over the 17-year average of 3,683.

The continual trend is that additions and remodel numbers are increasing; residential permits are at $21.9 million, an increase from $21.5 million from the end of July 2009, an increase over the 17-year average of $15.5 million, and just below the 2006 record of $22.9 million.

Nonresidential permits are at $73.2 million, an increase from $50 million from the end of July 2009, an increase over the 17-year average of $54.1 million, and the third best year below the 2008 record of $85.4 million.
