The core neighborhood revitalization effort known as Brushes of Hope is a remarkable community partnership that includes Habitat for Humanity of Greater Sioux Falls, Salvation Army, Norberg Paints, KNWC, Pettigrew Heights Neighborhood Housing Resource Center, and Volunteers of America.
“Brushes of Hope plays a critical role in rebuilding fragile neighborhoods by keeping people in their homes. We are so very grateful for the community of supporters and, of course, the volunteer groups that make our work possible,” said Troy Gordon, Community Relations Director of Habitat for Humanity of Greater Sioux Falls.
Their mission is aimed at providing painting, yard cleaning, and cosmetic repair services at no cost to low-income home owners this summer. Volunteer teams work to improve the exterior condition of homes by painting (paint donated by Norberg Paints), landscaping, fix-up, and performing minor exterior repairs at minimal costs to home owners who would be unable to complete home repairs on their own. Able-bodied home owners work alongside the volunteers in a cooperative effort.
Currently, a total of 25 homes have been completed. Habitat for Humanity of Greater Sioux Falls has finished 7 homes, with 8 homes waiting to be completed. The Salvation Army has finished 9 homes with 15 waiting to be completed. Norberg Paints has finished at least 5 manufactured homes, completed 4 homes, and is working on one of the oldest church structures in our city.
