Excessive rainfall has caused a two-week delay in the 57th Street project from Minnesota Avenue to Pennbrook Avenue. It is anticipated that this section of East 57th Street will be open to through traffic by Monday, August 30.

Once reopened, drivers will notice the street has been widened to add a continuous center turn lane and a dedicated right turn lane at Minnesota Avenue. The sight distance for turning vehicles at Heatherwood Circle and Wildwood Circle has been increased from less than 250 feet to 475 feet, making the roadway safer for the traveling public. This portion of 57th Street carries over 14,000 vehicles per day.

“We would especially like to thank the commuters and residents adjacent to the project for their patience as we complete the work on 57th Street during this unusual weather pattern,” said Wes Philips, Principal Street Engineer.

The prime contractor for the project is T & R Contracting of Sioux Falls.
