| The City of Sioux Falls has been monitoring fecal coliform counts in the Big Sioux River, and tests now indicate that the levels of fecal coliform bacteria have continued to decline to levels that are typical of the river for this time of year and are consistent with monitoring done prior to June 30, 2010. In addition, decreased flows in the sanitary sewer system have allowed the City to cease bypass operations into the river.
Based on this information, Governor Rounds has authorized the Big Sioux River be reopened for recreational use in Sioux Falls and all of Minnehaha County. |
