At 10:49 a.m., a man entered the Neon Diner at 4101 East Tenth Street. He was wearing a ski mask as he entered, displayed a black handgun, and demanded cash from the clerk.
The clerk was able to activate a holdup alarm when he saw the suspect enter the business. As the employee was gathering the cash, police arrived and established a perimeter around the business. When the suspect walked out of the business, he was apprehended by police. He was initially taken to the Law Enforcement Center where he was interviewed by detectives. He was lodged at the Minnehaha County Jail and charged with 1st Degree Robbery.
The clerk was alone at the time and was not injured. It was found the weapon that was displayed was a black BB gun.
Arrested:
- Michael Lee Zimmer, 24-year-old Sioux Falls resident.
The investigation continues and at this time, it is not known if Zimmer is responsible for any other recent casino robberies.
