Title: Sioux Falls Announces Citizen Survey Results

Ninety-two percent of residents surveyed in Sioux Falls say the city is a good or excellent place to live, according to the results of a recent scientific survey.

Working with the National Citizen Survey, a professional research firm that collects survey data for approximately 500 cities, Sioux Falls has received feedback on a range of services. The survey results contain a margin of error of plus/minus 3 percent.

Residents gave the city favorable marks for quality of life with 88 percent saying it is good or excellent. And they were largely satisfied with City services with 92 percent saying they receive at least a fair value for their tax dollar.

“These results are very gratifying,” Mayor Dave Munson said. “When compared with other cities where the same survey was conducted, we consistently scored above average, and we should all be very proud of what our citizens are telling us.”

The city ranked above average in 30 service areas surveyed when compared with other cities nationwide. Sioux Falls is on par with other cities in five areas and slightly below average in two areas.

“An area we’ve focused on since our last survey is street repair,” Munson said. “We worked on more than 1,100 city blocks this construction season and the results are starting to improve.”

Thirty-two percent of residents said street repair was good or excellent, a seven percent jump from 2008.

The City also received more favorable results on snow removal service with 68 percent rating it good or excellent, an increase of 9 percent from 2008.

Residents continue to give high marks for public safety. Ninety-five percent feel safe in their neighborhoods during the day; seventy-eight percent say they feel safe after dark. Ninety-five percent say the quality of Fire Rescue services is good or excellent.

Other city services were also ranked well above average. Ninety-two percent say city parks are good or excellent, eighty-seven percent say public library services are good or excellent, and eighty-two percent say health services are good or excellent.
