This afternoon, January 22, 2010, a transformer went out in central Sioux Falls. This caused an extensive area to lose power, including stoplights at intersections.
While the cause of the power outage is being worked on, it is anticipated the power will be out for several hours. City crews have a limited number of generators that will provide power, along with battery backup, at certain intersections. Other intersections will have Police Officers directing traffic.
As a reminder, if intersections are without power motorists are to treat them as a four-way stop.
If you encounter an intersection without power or an officer, stop before proceeding.
The area affected is at least from 12th Street south to 82nd Street and I-229 on the east side to Louise Avenue. Other areas may also be affected as well. |
