The annual St. Patrick’s Day Parade will kick off at 2 p.m. in downtown Sioux Falls on Saturday, March 13, 2010.
Staging and destaging for this event will be at Main Avenue from Fifth Street to Second Street. This area will be shut down starting at 12:30 p.m. The parade will start at Fifth Street and Main Avenue. It will go south on Main Avenue to 13th Street, east on 13th Street to Phillips Avenue, north on Phillips Avenue to Fifth Street, and west back to Main Avenue to the starting location of the parade.
The parade route will be shut down at approximately 1:50 p.m. The parade usually lasts about 1.5 hours. Motorists entering the downtown area will be detoured around the parade route and encouraged to use 14th Street and North Drive as alternate routes.
This year there again will be the “St. Patty’s Day Mile” road race. This will start at 2 p.m. along with the parade. The runners will start at 17th Street and Phillips Avenue and run straight north and end up at Fifth Street and Phillips Avenue. As a result of this event, 14th Street will be shut down for a very short time to allow the participants to cross 14th Street.
In an effort to keep our streets safe during the celebration and after, the Sioux Falls Police Department will have extra officers working the event as well as seat belt and DWI enforcement.
We would ask that everyone celebrate responsibly and have a fun and safe St. Patrick’s Day. Thank you! |
