Sioux Falls has a wonderful history of planning for, and managing, its' growth. The original Comprehensive City Plan was a Harland Bartholomew and Associates plan from November 1950. Growth Management is a valued practice in our region in all aspects of the community.
When we updated the Sioux Falls 2015: A Growth Management Plan in January 2003; it was updating Sioux Falls 2015: A Growth Management Plan from 1996. The 1996 Plan was completed after a two year public involvement process where planners, community leaders, and citizens all realized the importance of fiscal responsibility and proper controls upon both public and private development. The community was updating the Year 2000 Comprehensive Land Use Plan, which was adopted in 1979.
The following ordinance proposals have been approved by the Infrastructure Review Advisory Board and the Planning Commission and are being forwarded onto City Council for adoption during its scheduled November 7, 2005 meeting.
