I CAN Program

This was the second year of teaching the I CAN program. This program was developed by the Sioux Falls Police Department and the Sioux Falls School District. The I CAN program is a curriculum teaching fifth grade students about the harmful effects of drugs and alcohol. This program can be used by students to help them make wise choices about alcohol and drugs or to assist in making decisions about any of life’s problems. The eight lessons taught for the I CAN program cover other topics such as the harmful effects of smoking, alcohol, and drugs as well as peer pressure and bullying. During the 2010-11 school year, we will deliver the program to approximately 87 fifth grade classrooms in 32 different schools.
