Detective Division
The Sioux Falls Police Department Detective Division is staffed by 42 civilian and law enforcement professionals. The Division is divided into four primary sections.
The four sections of the Detective Division are:
- Crimes Against Persons (CAP)
- Property Crimes Section/Fraud (PCS)
- Narcotics
- Crime Lab
The duties of this staff are to conduct follow-up investigations of reported crimes, update sex offender registrations, process evidence at crime scenes, and proactively work Internet crimes along with seeking out Internet predators. Members of the Detective Division partner with both law enforcement and non-law enforcement agencies to accomplish its goals.
A case assignment breakdown by unit found that Crimes Against Persons had 4,819 cases and approximately 365 Department of Social Services Child Protection referrals; Property Crimes/Fraud had 7,359 cases (PCS 5,843/Fraud 1,516); Narcotics had 1,437 cases; and the Crime Lab handled around 475 cases. All told, there were 14,089 cases assigned to the Division for investigation in 2010.
