There are two basic areas of home security concern, inside and outside. Like any preventative measure, the goal is to remove the “opportunity” that you and your property are going to be the victim of a crime.
Common sense plays a big role in both inside and outside home security issues. Look around the outside of your home. Do you leave your grill, patio furniture, bicycles, lawn care equipment, etc. out in the open? How do your home and garage windows look? Are they broken? Can they be locked? What about lights in your yard? Are there dark areas were someone hide?
Tour the inside or your home. Do you have recommended length dead bolt locks on the exterior doors? Can your sliding glass door and other windows be locked? If you have an alarm system, when was the last time you had it professionally tested to make sure that it’s still operating at its peak efficiency? Do you have a peep hole on the exterior doors so that you can see who or what is on the other side?
An officer from our Community Services Division will be happy to come to your home, or place of business, and conduct a Safety Survey. At the end of the survey you’ll have reliable information about what is already security acceptable on your property, and what areas need improvement. The Safety Survey is free of charge and will give you piece of mind knowing that you’ve done everything you can to make your property as secure as possible.
