NATIONAL NIGHT OUT - AMERICA’S NIGHT OUT AGAINST CRIME

Each year, on the first Tuesday in August, neighborhoods throughout Sioux Falls are invited to join forces with thousands of communities’ (11,000 communities’, 35,000,000 people) world wide for the annual National Night Out crime and drug prevention event.  The National Association of Town Watch developed National Night Out 24 years ago.  Sioux Falls residents are asked to turn their porch lights on, lock their doors and spend the evening outside with neighbor and police.

National Night Out is designed to heighten crime and drug prevention awareness, generate support for, and participation in, local anti-crime programs, strengthen neighborhood spirit and police-community partnerships and send a message to criminals letting them know that neighborhoods are organized and know what to look for.

National Night Out has proven to be an effective, inexpensive and enjoyable program to promote community and police partnerships in our fight for a safer community and nation.
