Benefits of the ESSS Project to Landowners
Current Residents - Connecting to the city sanitary sewer system will alleviate residents from maintaining and operating their own septic tank systems. Elimination of septic tank systems can have a positive impact on property value. Elimination of septic tank systems can also have a positive impact on water quality as some septic tank systems do not properly work due to poorly drained soil, drain field short circuiting and improper installation of systems. The City will take over the responsibility of collection and treatment of the wastewater.
Future Residents - The ESSS will eliminate any long-term maintenance requirements associated with septic tank systems and provide for a sanitary sewer infrastructure system that residents can connect onto.
Benefits of the ESSS Project to the City as a whole
This project will benefit the City of Sioux Falls by opening 23,256 acres for potential development. By planning for this growth early, central trunk sewer pipes can be positioned in the most advantageous route prior to development. This will reduce alignment issues, and potential construction detours, in addition to creating an efficient operating gravity and force main sanitary sewer collection system.
