57th Street: Cliff Avenue to Sycamore Avenue
This project started in 2007 with the realignment of Sycamore Avenue and the grading for the railroad embankment. In 2008, 57th Street will be widened from Cliff to Sycamore Avenue. The project has begun with pavement removals, grading and utility work from Cliff Avenue to Lewis Avenue. The contractor is also working on the RR Overpass bridge. In addition, the area between Sycamore Avenue and Southeastern Avenue is totally closed to traffic. Drivers are detoured to 41st Street from Southeastern Avenue to Sycamore Avenue. This total closure will last until late August. The area between Cliff and Southeastern Avenue will remain open to traffic, however, delays can be expected. This project will install traffic signals at Lewis Avenue, Southeastern Avenue and Bahnson Avenue. The street will be constructed as a four lane with landscaped median section, allowing U-turns at the signalized intersections.
