69th Street and Southeastern Avenue

The two arterials of Southeastern Avenue and 69th Street are currently rural gravel roads. Over the next two years, the City will be constructing urban improvements on Southeastern Avenue from Chatham Street to 1/4 mile south of 69th Street and on 69th Street from Charger Avenue to 1/4 mile east of Southeastern Avenue. Both street improvements have unique features to be constructed. A railroad overpass will be constructed on 69th Street (similar to the newly constructed 57th Street overpass) to allow for improved vehicle and pedestrians crossing the rail tracks. 69th Street will be constructed as a four lane section with a landscaped median and sidewalks. On Southeastern Avenue, four lanes with a median are also planned to be constructed. In addition, a new multi-lane roundabout will be constructed at the intersection of 69th Street and Southeastern Avenue. Roundabouts provide for a safer more efficient movement of traffic versus a traffic signal. For more information on roundabouts, please see the Public Works website. These projects are currently under design and may start in 2010, pending available funding.
