Big Sioux River Drainage Basin

The watershed is the home of the largest city in South Dakota, Sioux Falls, and various other communities. These communities rely all, or in part, on the Big Sioux River for their water supply.

In addition, agriculture, including crop and livestock production, is also a dominant user of water.

Streamflow is highly variable.
