Downtown Special Events

Special events which occur on public property in downtown can receive approval through the process set forth on this page.

Events occurring exclusively in a downtown park are exempt from the DTSF review process and go through the process set forth by the Parks Department. The City of Sioux Falls has partnered with Downtown Sioux Falls, Inc. (DTSF), to facilitate the approval of special events in Downtown.

Downtown Sioux Falls Special Event Approval Process

To request consideration for approval of an event in downtown Sioux Falls, the following steps are required: 

  • Complete an application for Downtown Special Event.
    • Notice must be submitted at least 90 days prior to occurrence of event.

  • Begin alcohol licensing review (for events with alcohol).
    • Begin simultaneously with event application.

  • Review application and event parameters with DTSF Event Committee to obtain event approval.

  • Obtain all necessary permits, licenses, and agreements related to the event.
