Kermit L. Staggers (AL)
Kermit L Staggers began his career in public service with his election to the South Dakota Senate in 1994. After serving eight years in the Senate, Kermit joined the Sioux Falls City Council in 2002, and represented the Central District until being term-limited in 2010. In 2012, Kermit was elected as an At Large City Councilor.
Kermit is a Professor of History and Political Science at the University of Sioux Falls, and received his Ph.D. in American History from the Claremont Graduate University (Claremont, CA). In 2001, he received a Fulbright Lectureship at the Diplomatic Academy of the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry and the National University Kiev-Mohyla Academy (Kiev, Ukraine) where he taught courses on American government and modern globalization. He has also taught for the University of Maryland in Spain and Germany, served as president of the Great Plains Political Science Association and has contributed scholarly articles to journals and books. Additionally, he served six years as an Air Force Intelligence Officer, and is listed in Who's Who in America.
Kermit and his wife June have two children, Ayn Kristen and Kyle Lee and two grandsons, Elijah and Matthew.
